About NRI

• Introduction

We will explore the vast ocean of possibilities in neuroscience

The Neuroscience Research Institute (NRI) of Gachon University is determined to usher in a new era in the field of neuroscience research in Korea. NRI was founded by the Incheon Gil Medical Center in the beginning of September 2004. At NRI, the focus has been neuroscience research through advanced neuroimaging; thus, our priority has been development of a hybrid PET-MRI system with which one can unravel the mysteries of the final frontier: the brain. This new PET-MRI system is the first of its kind, incorporating state-of-the-art research-dedicated PET and ultra-high field (UHF) MRI (7.0T). This new hybrid PET-MRI will open new avenues of research on behavior, modern cognitive neuroscience, and diagnosis of brain diseases in the early molecular stages. Many of these research topics were but dreams in the past, but they have now become a reality. It is now possible to see actual molecular and genetic changes in the brain with high temporal and spatial resolution. NRI was established by the Gachon University to spearhead the research programs of the University. Here, we aspired to develop not only the world's first but also the most advanced PET-MRI ever conceived. Our goal is to be the leader in the field of neuroscience, not only in Korea and Asia, but also on an international stage. We aim to be the world’s “Mecca of Neuroscience Research.”Concurrently, we will invest our efforts in fostering young scientists and engineers and in building the foundations for not only the future of neuroscience but also neuroimaging science and technology.
