본 연구원은 미국 NIH 그리고 프랑스 Neurospin과 세계 최초 뇌 전용 11.74T MRI 개발 경쟁에 나섰다.

본 연구원은 이탈리아 기업 ASG와 공동으로 초정밀 뇌전용 11.74T MRI 핵심 부품인 “마그넷” 제작을 완료하고 2018년 12월20일 이탈리아 제노바에서 제작을 축하하는 기념식을 가졌다

이 마그넷은 현지에서 기능 점검을 거친 후 2020년 5월에 인천항으로 반입한 뒤 송도 브레인 밸리 NRI 분원에 설치되고, 2022년까지 뇌 영상 생성 할 수 있는 MRI 개발을 목표로 하고 있다. 본 연구는 보건복지부가 지원하는 “뇌 질환 조기진단기술 개발 사업”으로 수행되고 있다.

11.74T MRI는 일반 병원에서 흔히 사용되는 3.0T MRI보다 평면 해상도가 1만 배 이상 선명해 뇌 조직 관찰에 최적의 장비로 예상되고 있다. 따라서 11.74T MRI는 파킨슨병, 알츠하이머병, 뇌졸중, 뇌동맥류 등 뇌 질환 진단, 뇌세포 기능 평가 및 약물 효과 판정 등에 획기적인 전환점을 가져다 줄 것으로 기대된다

Now, the NRI is competing with the United States' NIH and France's Neurospin to develop 11.74T MRI, which is the world's first MRI which has ultra- high magnetism and gives ultra-high resolution images.

In collaboration with the Italian company ASG, the NRI completed the production of "Magnet," a core part of the 11.74T MRI and held a ceremony to celebrate the production on December 20, 2018 in Genoa, Italy.

The magnet will be brought to Incheon Port in May 2020 after a functional check there and installed in the Brain Valley, the NRI branch in Songdo. The NRI aims to develop a 11.74 T MRI generating brain images by 2022. This is “The Early Diagnosis Technology Development for Brain Disease Project“ supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
