(Research in brief)

The research is dedicated to using 7.0T MRI for the micro-vascular imaging and to developing the model for the vascular physiology in the brain, because 7.0T MRI can provide ultra-high resolution vascular images and more accurate diagnosis to the patients with cerebrovascular diseases.
With its help, the first on-going study is to develop or search for the alternative methodology to the invasive angiography. Recently I am investigating the collateral distribution of asymptomatic steno-occlusive patients, which are unable to see with conventional MRI. Also I am conducting the aging effects on the morphology of the human cerebral microvasculature on a large number of healthy subjects from different age groups. To characterize aging effects, relevant morphological parameters of vessels will be quantified with high accuracy by developing a state-of-the-art 3D model-based segmentation approach. The second mission is to translate these laboratory discoveries into prevention and treatment for vascular diseases like vascular dementia and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
